We are thrilled to announce that our Resident of the Month is the kind-hearted and adventurous Ms. H! Since joining us at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab, Ms. H has become a vibrant part of our family, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate her this month.
Ms. H grew up in Kentucky, where she spent her youth closely bonded with her grandmother. She fondly recalls the simple joys of childhood, like listening to her grandmother’s stories and breaking beans together. After graduating High School, Ms. H attended Community College, where she pursued her passions for teaching and art. Those who know Ms. H know she is a true “nature soul.” Whether it was fishing, caving, or exploring the Kentucky wilderness, Ms. H was happiest when she was outdoors. While she misses her days of hard outside work, that same grit and determination stay with her today.
Ms. H is a familiar face at our activities, especially when it comes to getting others involved. One of her favorite memories here is a lively game of volleyball. “I loved seeing everyone get involved and seeing everyone laugh and smile,” she says. She also shares a very special bond with her mother, who is also a resident. Ms. H says she finds great peace of mind knowing her mother is getting the care she needs, and the two can often be found enjoying a game of Bingo together. An artist at heart, Ms. H stays busy with drawing and crafts, anything to keep her hands moving! She is a massive animal lover with a special soft spot for cats.
Currently, Ms. H is working hard with our therapy team to regain her strength. Her goals are clear: she wants to reach the level of independence needed to have her own place, a cat of her own, and, most importantly, to get back out on the water to go fishing again. She credits the therapy staff for their constant encouragement; they always push her to never give up.
Ms. H was surprised to be named Resident of the Month, but we think it’s a well-deserved honor for someone who spends so much time lifting the spirits of those around her. When asked if she had any advice for her friends and staff, she offered these beautiful words: “Take a deep breath and stay kind.”
