We proudly recognize Arlus as our Resident of the Month for July! His journey through life is nothing short of an inspiring story rooted in hard work, faith, and a joyful spirit that lights up our community. Raised on a farm, Arlus set out on his own at the young age of 16, working on the railroads and learning the value of perseverance early in life. In 1950, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army. He served with honor for three years, even enduring an injury during his service. In 1989, Arlus entered a new chapter of his life when he got married, an experience that brought him lasting love and companionship. Soon after, he returned to what he calls his lifeās true purpose: preaching.
His deep faith and dedication to spreading the word of God have touched many lives. Here at Cumberland, Arlus is known for his kind heart, his warm presence, and his favorite pastimesāworking on word searches, hanging out with the guys on the patio, and playing bingo. One of his long-term goals is to go hunting again, a passion he still holds dear to. Being named Resident of the Month meant the world to Arlus. He shared, āIt made me feel aliveāI was overfilled with joy.ā His message to staff and fellow residents is both simple and profound; he stated, āGet right with the Lord and never take a day for granted.ā Arlus has a deep love for the staff at Cumberland, whom he considers his second family. His favorite holiday is Christmas, a time he cherishes both for celebrating Jesusās birth and for spending extra time with his family. Thank you, Arlus, for sharing your life, your wisdom, and your warmth with all of us, but most of all, thank you for serving our country. We are so grateful to have you as part of our Cumberland family.
