We’re so excited to shine the spotlight on Loretta this month! Loretta’s sweet spirit and infectious smile have made her a favorite here at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab, and we just had to share her story. Loretta grew up in Nancy, Kentucky, as the only girl in the family with two brothers. She’s got stories for days about small-town life and the lessons she learned from her family. After growing up in Nancy, Loretta spent years working as a secretary at a doctor’s office, a job she loved. But her favorite story to tell? How she met her late husband, Gail Wilson. Her eyes still light up when she talks about him. “He was the love of my life,” she’ll say with a sigh. We don’t blame her for reminiscing!
Music has always been a huge part of Loretta’s life. For years, she played the piano at Okolona Church and let us tell you she’s still got the magic touch! You’ll often find her tinkering on the keys here at Cumberland, sharing that gift with all of us. So, what’s life like for Loretta now? She’ll tell you straight up: “The workers here are wonderful!” (We might’ve blushed a little.) She raves about the “yummy, good food, (especially the ice cream, which she never says no to) and stays busy with puzzles, Bingo, piano time, and chatting with staff and friends. Honestly, her laugh is contagious. Walk into a room, and Loretta’s smile will brighten your day like sunshine.
When we surprised her about being Resident of the Month, her face lit up like the 4th of July. She was shocked, but we weren’t. Loretta’s kindness and joy make her unforgettable. Her advice to everyone here? Simple but powerful: “Take it easy in life.” She lives this by savoring ice cream, tackling jigsaw puzzles, and sharing stories about Gail. We’re so lucky to have Loretta here as she reminds us to slow down, enjoy the little things, and always save room for dessert! Cumberland Nursing and Rehab celebrates residents like Loretta every day. Please stop by and let her brighten your afternoon with a story or a piano tune!
